Alaskan Excursions
In June of 2000, Capt. Jerry ventured to Elfin Cove, Alaska for what
he called "The Once in a Lifetime Trip." But because Elfin
Cove was such a wildly exciting locale for catching big fish and an
unbelievably majestic place inhabited by wildlife beyond belief, that
trip transpired into "The Annual Trip of a Lifetime." After
his initial visit, Capt. Jerry became a spokesperson for the Tanaku
Lodge, a world class fishing operation that caters to the needs of every
type of angler, whether they be novices or experts. During his visits,
Capt. McGrath has managed to catch lingcod, rock fish, sculpin, gray
cod, dolly varden trout, chum salmon, pink salmon, cohos, chinooks,
and even octopus. However, the fish that captures everyone's attention
is the halibut, especially those monsters known as the barndoors. Some
behemoth halibut caught by Tanaku patrons have been recorded beyond
360 lbs. From first hand experience (including his personal best of
214 lbs.), Capt. Jerry says, "Landing one of these monsters is
something that you never forget."
